I feel I bring a fresh new flavor to modern hip hop. The style and flow that I expel are smooth, memorable, and well-liked. Lyrically I paint vivid pictures for my audience using intelligence and creativity. The results are storylines and messages that are easily absorbed and very relatable to my listeners.
I Rap, Sing, and make people dance to my music so I classify it into three different genres. Hip-Hop being the main ingredient, I also spice my tracks up with a bit of R&B and a dash of Pop for a unique and desirable flavor. Combined together I’ve created what I call “Hip-Pop R&B”
In no way am I completely similar to any artist or group. However I do have some similarities to Drake, T.I. & Common. I say this based mostly on tone & delivery, and minimally on subject matter and word play. Why, because I keep that calm, cool and collective vibe going on at all times. Personally I get that same vibe from these artists. On the other hand my choice of words and stories I believe are a bit more thought out. This is because I use very little profanity by replacing it with more appropriate grammar. Also I the time take the time to relate to my audience and give them topics that they could relate to, versus mansions, super models, and exotic cars which most people will never obtain in there lifetime. This is why I’m well accepted because my audience feels a certain closeness to me as I speak to the minds of everyone, and not just a small portion.
I keep samples to a low seeing that I’m a big believer of originality. My beats are created using industry standard equipment such as pro tools, MPC 5000, Motif Keyboard, Digi-Design Sound board etc. Seeing as though I’m a solo artist, and don’t have any group members to play instruments for me, all my sound is electronic. I definitely love the strong bass line, high hats, and kick drums. Bells always sound cool to me, plus I use the synthesizer to produce that high tech futuristic sound. (NO AUTO TUNE) on the vocals, just aint my thing.
I’ve been inspired by many artists, Eazy E, Warren G, Bone thugs and harmony just to name a few. I was introduced to hip hop in the late eighties but really took a liking to it in the nineties. I liked Eazy-E just because I was rebellious to my parents and attracted to music I wasn’t supposed to listen to. Warren G because, well, my real name is Warren for one, and two, I just felt he had a real cool swagger going on. REGULATORS!!! That’s all I got to say. Bone thugs and harmony? Are you kidding me? Who doesn’t love East 1999? Oh and Snoop Dogg in doggy style, now that’s a classic. All these artists and groups have played a vital role in inspiring me to be the artist that I’ve become.
I think a lot of it’s in my blood. My mother was a great singer/songwriter and I’m pretty sure my talents and skills were passed down from her to me through DNA. I’m real, truthful, and original. That’s my foundation. On top of that I’m Charismatic, Energetic, and a very personable guy. All this together in addition to great music.., makes me a great Artist.
I make it because I love it. I have ever since I was a baby. My Grandmother can tell you a story of when I was about nine months old and just learning to stand. She was watching me standing up in a little blue kiddie pool with no water in it. My mom told her, hey check this out. She put on a vinyl Micheal Jackson record and I just started going at it bouncing up and down smiling and dancing but it was no ordinary nine month old baby performance. I was moving perfectly to the beat like I was on an episode of dancing with the stars and neither of them could believe it. My love for music has only grown stronger ever since which is why I create it today.
My creativity comes from many different elements. Certain Settings, people, places, and things fuel my ideas. Some of my most creative work is done while partaking in an ancient herbal remedy. It elevates me to a higher state of mind, and opens up a whole new world of words, rhymes, & rythems. And again I have to credit my mother, and many others in my family as we all have strong a knack for creativity.
The beat is what initially gets my attention. If it’s a good one, I’ll keep listening. The melody is key too because it’s what make a song stick in your head. The lyrics have to be tight as well otherwise it doesn’t matter how great the beat sounds, the song as a whole blows. Some songs have strong versus but when you get to the chorus they drop the ball or vice versa. I believe that when you’ve got all these aspects covered and working together, you’ve got a song that moves me.
The great thing about my songs is that they’re very well accepted by a broad audience. I like to target my music to kids in there late teens all the way up to adults in there 50’s and 60’s. My primary audience however would be between 18-35 seeing as though they are the ones who will actually go out and buy a record or download it off the internet. My subject matter is geared more towards this age bracket but even so people of many different backgrounds and ages take a liking to my work.
You really don’t want to know what I think about modern hip-hop, but I’ll tell you anyway. I HATE IT!!! Aside from a select few artists, I’ve grown incredibly tired of hearing the same crap that rappers continually expel year after year. NEWSFLASH!!! You can only talk about MONEY, DIAMONDS, CLOTHES, MANSIONS, and FORIEGN CARS for so long until people just get sick of hearing you. Number one you probably don’t even have all that stuff you’re saying you do, and two you’re flows exactly the same as everyone else’s. On top of that 99.9% of the people you’re rapping to, don’t have what you claim you do and yet you keep rubbing it in there faces. Who wants to hear about how great your life is when theirs is none of the sort!!! It’s like.., can’t you think of anything else to say? Are you that slow that you can’t think of any other topics or words that haven’t been beaten down like an old race horse. Think my brother, think!!! You can do it. It just takes a little intelligence and some hard work.
When I get on stage, I light up the whole place. Usually dressed to the nines and looking very dapper I command the attention of the entire audience. I like to start off by giving thanks to all who helped make everything possible and move on by hyping up the crowd and getting them ready for the show. See I’m not you’re typical stand there with a mic and look cool kind a guy. Not me, I’m not afraid to feel the music. I let it flow through my body moving with it in whatever direction it takes me. Seeing as though I’m rhythmically inclined being able to groove to a beat is no problem for me. This is one of the reasons myself and countless others consider me to be very entertaining. As the show goes on I exert an extreme amount of energy which in turn is absorbed by the audience. Sweat starts beading down my face, and clothes start coming off, maybe a suit jacket and a hat, (I’m not a stripper) All in all the performance I provide is well-liked and always leaves the crowd thirsty for more.
